Nickel Wire

About

Pure Nickel Wire

Nickel is a silver-white metal that occurs mainly in sulfide and arsenic ores. It is extracted by roasting to NiO and then reducing it using carbon. High-purity Nickel is produced through the Mond process, where impure nickel reacts with carbon monoxide (CO) to produce Ni(CO)4, which is then decomposed at 200°C to yield 99.99% Ni. Nickel is relatively abundant, with 80 ppm in the Earth’s crust.

Pure Nickel is malleable, ductile, and resistant to corrosion in air or water, making it ideal for use as a protective coating. It dissolves readily in diluted acids but is unaffected by alkalis.

Lone Wolf Metals offers high purity Nickel Wire NP1 with nickel content ranging from 99.87% to 99.98%, and Nickel Wire NP2 with nickel content ranging from 99.78% to 99.86%. Our industrial metals are produced to meet the highest quality standards.

Application

  • Electronics and Electrical Industries:  Pure Nickel Wire is used in making electrical heating elements, precision resistors, and thermocouples due to its ability to withstand high temperatures and its reliable electrical properties.
  • Battery Manufacturing:  Pure Nickel Wire is essential in producing batteries like nickel-cadmium (NiCd) and nickel-metal hydride (NiMH). It serves as electrodes or current collectors because of its good electrical conductivity and stability.
  • Alloy Production:  Pure Nickel Wire acts as an additive in creating stainless steel and nickel-based superalloys. It improves corrosion resistance and mechanical strength for use in aerospace and energy sectors.
  • Catalysis:  Pure Nickel Wire functions as a catalyst in chemical reactions, such as hydrogenation processes, thanks to its effectiveness when in wire form.
  • Textile Industry:  Pure Nickel Wire is also used in textile machinery components like needles and weaving equipment for its durability and resistance to wear and corrosion.
  • Aerospace and Defense:  Pure Nickel Wire is applied in parts that require high strength and can withstand extreme temperatures, such as engine components and exhaust systems.
